About

CMCA was founded in 2003 by a group of three artists from formerly disadvantaged communities in and around Cape Town.

Sibongile Memani, one of the founders, teaches the Mosaic Art in conjunction with the Breath Water Sound Program. Breath Water Sound is a dynamic program, designed for the financially, physically or emotionally challenged sections of the society, whether they be urban or rural.

The workshop provides tools that improve over-all health, wellness and increase enthusiasm and mental focus. Participants learn breathing, sound relaxation, and meditation techniques. As these techniques eliminate stress from the system, the mind gains the clarity to solve problems - when individuals are uplifted the whole community is enriched.

A major component of the workshop is community service . The final two days of this four-day course are centered around community empowerment and taking responsibility for the needs of one's community. The new taught skill of Mosaic provides the people with an opportunity to work and generate an income for themselves and their family.

Breath Water Sound Workshop has been successful in:

- Eliminating Stress
- Reducing Alcoholism and drug abuse and abusive behavior patterns
- Increasing overall health and mental well-being
- Re - affirming basic human values
- Inspiring greater responsibility and a feeling of belongingness
- building communities and the community spirit

Over 1000 people from South Africa have benefitted from the Program which are being taught in Gauteng, Kwa Zulu Natal and the Western Cape.

Sibongile Memani
Sibongile started with ceramic art in his hometown Lady Free in the Eastern Cape, building chairs, sculptures and animal statues. In 1998 the artist moved to Cape Town, took classes in business management
and enrolled at the Cape Technikon in 2002 to study design. In the course of an Outreach Course at the Ruth Prowse College of Art & Design Sibungile also learned wire work and paper and mache making.

The artist’s big passion is mosaics. Sibongele was trained by Lovell Friedman (part time lecturer at Cape Technikon) and founded CMCA in 2003. He designed and created the murals at the Arabella Country Estate in Kleinmond and many other beautiful artwork which you can see in the Product and Reference section.

Sibongile is a Breath Water Sound teacher.

His Christian name signifies ‘thankful to God’, and that’s exactly what one gets, as soon as you meet the artist in person. He exudes happiness, and genuine niceness.

Anything is possible and there are no limits to creativity!
